Smoothing Hair Conditioner
A balanced, rinse-out conditioner designed to detangle, smooth, and enhance shine without heaviness. This BTMS-50 and cetyl alcohol blend provides soft slip and manageable body for normal to slightly dry hair types.
Ingredients
- (All measurements are by weight)
- 9.8 oz Distilled Water
- 2.2 oz BTMS-50
- 0.8 oz Cetyl Alcohol
- 1.0 oz Clear Jojoba Oil (or Argan Oil)
- 0.6 oz Vegetable Glycerin
- 0.4 oz DL Panthenol Powder
- 0.16 oz Liquid Germall Plus
- 0.08 oz Fragrance Oil
- Citric Acid Solution (10%) – as needed to adjust pH
Instructions
- Combine distilled water and glycerin in a heat-safe container. Heat to 170°F.
- In a separate container, combine BTMS-50, cetyl alcohol, and jojoba oil. Heat to 170°F until fully melted.
- Slowly pour the oil mixture into the water mixture while stick blending for 1–2 minutes until emulsified and creamy.
- Allow mixture to cool to 120°F. Add DL Panthenol and mix thoroughly.
- Below 110°F, add preservative and fragrance.
- Adjust pH to 4.5–5.0 using small amounts of 10% citric acid solution.
- Allow to fully cool and thicken before bottling.
- Target pH: 4.5–5.0 (supports cuticle smoothing)
- Conditioning System: BTMS-50 provides slip and detangling
- Texture Modifier: Cetyl alcohol gives lightweight cream structure
- Oil Selection: Jojoba = balanced; Argan = more shine
- Hair Type: Best for normal, slightly dry, or chemically treated hair

Troubleshooting
Too Heavy?
Reduce oil by 0.2–0.3 oz.
Too Thin?
Increase cetyl alcohol slightly.
Not Enough Slip?
Increase BTMS-50 by 0.2 oz.
Separation Occurring?
Ensure full 170°F heating and proper stick blending.
